Inspired by a dream I had a long time ago that sort of stuck with me, although this actually ended up bearing no resemblance to the dream itself. I've worked with this concept before, but as a novel, not flash fiction, so hopefully this works...

Intense. Save mahhh babbyyy! D: ! But yeah. This would be a good premise for something longer. Oh waking up after you think you've drowned, somehow the theme is familiar. :D

I have a prequel somewhere associated with this, as well as a continuation I'd planned, but alas, it hasn't yet materialized.

OOOH -- This is wonderful! Lovely crafting, I was rivetted, and the ending is nicely surprising. Well done. :)

Except for the typo I just noticed exterminates should be extremities lol. Oops! But thank you so much, coming from you particularly that makes me feel awesome :)

Now to type up the stories I wrote at my party =D

Wow! Really cool story! I like the ending too, makes my imagination work on what is happening. It could be a good start for a longer story too. It makes me think that mermaids are like cuckoos, that the main character was swapped as a child in a similar manner as the she witnesses at the begining and the baby in the canoe is a lure/test to bring her back to her proper home.

In the original version of this, Meredith was a Selkie's daughter.
